President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his commendation for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) regarding the successful resumption of operations at the Warri Refinery. This facility is currently operating at 60% capacity and producing 125,000 barrels per day.
He characterized this milestone as a reflection of his administration's strategic efforts aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and security. “The restart of the Warri Refinery today brings immense joy to me and Nigerians. This achievement strengthens the hope and confidence of our people in the brighter future we promised,” Tinubu remarked.
Ending the year on this high note is significant, especially following the earlier success with the old Port Harcourt Refinery, because it demonstrates our commitment to progress. He acknowledged the leadership of NNPCL, particularly Mele Kyari, for their relentless dedication to restoring Nigeria's status as a prominent oil-producing nation.
“I congratulate Mele Kyari and his team for working tirelessly to reclaim our national pride and position Nigeria as a hub for crude oil refining in Africa,” he added. However, challenges remain and, although progress has been made, the journey ahead requires sustained efforts.
The president further urged NNPCL to speed up the rehabilitation of the Kaduna Refinery (which is essential) and the second Port Harcourt Refinery, because it has a capacity of 150,000 barrels per day. He emphasized the importance of strengthening Nigeria’s position in the global energy market; however, this task requires considerable effort. Although progress is being made, there are still challenges to overcome.
