The People Democratic Party (PDP) has, unfortunately, postponed its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which was initially scheduled for November 28, 2024. A statement issued by the National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, clarified that this rescheduling occurred to enable Party leaders to participate in the funeral of the late First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Mrs. Patience Umo Eno, who was the wife of Governor Pastor Umo Bassey Eno.
The funeral is set to take place from November 27 to 29, 2024. The statement asserts: "Distinguished members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) may remember that the NEC meeting originally planned for Thursday, October 24, 2024, was postponed to Thursday, November 28, 2024, after an extensive gathering with Party leaders, key stakeholders and pertinent Party organs on Tuesday, October 22, 2024."
This change reflects the Party's commitment to honoring significant figures, however, it also highlights the complex nature of scheduling within political organizations.
However, during its assembly on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, the National Working Committee (NWC) observed that the memorial events for the esteemed First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Mrs. Patience Umo Eno, coincided with the prearranged dates for the NEC meeting. After thorough contemplation, the NWC—acknowledging the significance of Party leaders participating in the funeral to exhibit solidarity with Governor Umo Eno—has resolved to postpone the NEC meeting.
A new date for the 99th NEC meeting will be communicated to members in due course. All NEC members are kindly urged to take note of this alteration and adjust accordingly. The NWC sincerely regrets any inconvenience this may cause to distinguished NEC members.
