Merely days after the Court of Appeal in Abuja invalidated his presidency, Musiliu 'MC Oluomo' Akinsanya took office as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) on Tuesday. This contentious action defied the court's ruling, which confirmed Ibikunle Baruwa as the rightful leader.
Although the court's decision was clear, the federal government has not yet addressed Akinsanya's defiance publicly. Human rights attorney Femi Falana has urged the Attorney-General and the Inspector-General of Police to implement the court's ruling and restore Baruwa to his position. However, no formal response or measures have been undertaken by the government thus far.
