NIGERIA INDEPENDENCE DAY 2024

The federal government has officially designated Tuesday, October 1, 2024, as a public holiday in celebration of Nigeria's 64th Independence Day. The announcement came from the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who expressed deep appreciation for the resilience and dedication of Nigerians.

He highlighted the importance of remembering the sacrifices of the nation’s past heroes and called on citizens to come together in the spirit of unity and nation-building. Due to the prevailing economic difficulties, the celebrations will be relatively modest, reflecting the challenges many households are currently facing.

Several key events are scheduled for the Independence Day observance, although they will be scaled back to align with the nation's economic situation.

The planned activities include:

- Juma’at Prayer: To be held on Friday, September 27, at the National Mosque in Abuja.

- Inter-Denominational Church Service: Taking place on Sunday, September 29, at the National Christian Centre.

- Presidential Address: Scheduled for October 1 at 7 AM, where the president will deliver a national broadcast.

- Independence Day Parade: Set for 10 AM on October 1 at the presidential villa.

These events are aimed at fostering a sense of unity and resilience, encouraging Nigerians to reflect on their shared history while looking toward the future with hope.
