NCCSALW LEGISLATION HAS BEEN SIGNED INTO LAW

Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, has announced that President Bola Tinubu has officially signed a law to establish the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW).

This announcement was made during a workshop on Gender Mainstreaming aimed at addressing the spread of small arms and light weapons in Nigeria and the broader West African region. The event took place on Tuesday in Abuja with Ribadu being represented by Ambassador Ibrahim Babani, the Director of External Affairs in the Office of the National Security Adviser.

Ribadu shared that the National Centre has already retrieved 3,383 decommissioned, unserviceable, obsolete and illegal small arms and light weapons as well as 26,749 rounds of ammunition of various calibres from government agencies responsible for arms.

He also noted that the NCCSALW plans to conduct an Arms Destruction Exercise later this quarter, as a crucial step to permanently remove recovered weapons from circulation.
