INNOSON LAUNCHES ELECTRIC VEHICLE MADE IN NIGERIA



Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing IVM has made a significant breakthrough by introducing its first electric vehicle produced locally. This milestone is seen as a step forward for the Nigerian automotive industry.


Cornel Osigwe, who leads Communications and Corporate Affairs at IVM shared the news on Facebook highlighting the importance of this achievement for Nigerias expanding auto sector.




Osigwe revealed that the electric vehicle was crafted at IVMS state of the art production facility located in Nnewi Anambra State. He expressed his enthusiasm saying "I just had a test drive of the first Innoson electric vehicle manufactured in Nnewi. We’re just getting started."


Although this marks IVMS entry into electric vehicle production specific details regarding pricing production quantities and the launch timeline were not disclosed. 


Nevertheless Osigwe noted that the batch of IVM electric cars had already been completely sold out.




He mentioned that after the announcement there was an overwhelming response from the company with many inquiries and upfront payments from enthusiastic customers eager to be among the first to own an Innoson electric vehicle. Osigwe confirmed that the initial batch of vehicles, which is limited in quantity has already sold out. 


Electric vehicles play a role in reducing carbon emissions, from road transport which accounts for more than 15% of global energy related emissions as reported by the International Energy Agency IEA. 


The electric vehicle market has experienced significant growth with advancements in range, performance and model options. By 2023 electric passenger cars represented approximately 18% of new car sales indicating a worldwide shift towards more sustainable transportation alternatives.
