HOW FEDERAL HOSPITALS ELECTRICITY WERE SUBSIDISED

Dr. Tunji Alausa, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, has announced that the Federal Government has approved a 50% subsidy on electricity for public hospitals across the country. This measure aims to reduce operating costs for these hospitals and ease the financial burden on patients.

In his statement, Dr. Alausa mentioned plans to rename Federal Hospitals as Specialist Hospitals to broaden the scope of care and reduce the stigma associated with certain facilities. He emphasized that while psychiatric services will remain a core focus, the rebranding will facilitate the expansion of other services.

Dr. Alausa also addressed the issue of private businesses operating within health and educational institutions, clarifying that only facilities directly related to health and education will benefit from the subsidy. He stressed the importance of accurate data collection to ensure that subsidies are not extended to private businesses that charge commercial rates to their customers, as this would result in unfair profits.
