NMDPRA CHIEF EXECUTIVE SUSPENDED

The House of Representatives has called for the suspension of the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) pending a thorough investigation into allegations against the Authority.

This action was prompted by a motion of urgent public importance raised by Honorable Esosa Iyawe, who emphasized the need to address the disruptions caused by what he described as reckless remarks made by the NMDPRA Chief Executive.

Hon. Iyawe stated, "In their defense, Dangote requested a test of their products, which was supervised by Members of the House of Representatives. The test revealed that Dangote’s diesel had a sulfur content of 87.6 ppm (parts per million), while two other samples of imported diesel showed sulfur levels exceeding 1800 ppm and 2000 ppm, respectively, thus disproving the allegations made by the NMDPRA Chief Executive.

"Allegations have been made that the NMDPRA has been issuing licenses to traders who regularly import high-sulfur content diesel into Nigeria. The use of such products poses serious health risks and leads to significant financial losses for Nigerians.

"The unguarded statements by the NMDPRA Chief Executive, which have since been disproven, have sparked outrage among Nigerians. They view his undermining of local refineries and insistence on the continued importation of fuel as acts of economic sabotage, given that the imported products contain high levels of harmful compounds."
