The Senate has called for an urgent session tomorrow to review President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's supplementary budget proposal for the 2024 fiscal year.
A formal proposal for acquiring a new presidential aircraft is expected to be presented to the National Assembly within a Supplementary Appropriation Bill.
Members of Congress, both from the House of Representatives and the Senate, started their break last week and are expected to return on July 2, 2024.
The Senate plans to convene for a plenary session on Thursday to address various matters, including appropriation, as confirmed by Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs for the APC representing Ekiti South. He made this announcement on Wednesday.
He said, “It’s our statutory resumption from the Sallah break. The Senate has the constitutional power to regulate its sessions, and we believe that we could gain one more legislative day to deal with national and constitutional issues, hence the bringing forward from the initial July 2.
“We hope to address issues concerning our further oversight on the appropriations and resolve outstanding constitutional and electoral concerns. We also aim to clear outstanding bills and motions before our annual recess later in the year.”
