A Nigerian female soldier, Lance Corporal Jonah Comfort (service number 15NA/74/4422F), has been dismissed after admitting to stealing gold jewelry worth ₦35 million from the wife of a senior army officer in Kaduna.
Comfort reportedly committed the theft in early May, entering the senior officer’s room and stealing the valuable items. She later sold the jewelry to a jeweler in Kaduna for ₦5 million. The jeweler has also been arrested by military police.
Army sources indicated that the authorities sought to keep the incident quiet to avoid public scrutiny over how the officer's wife, a housewife, possessed such expensive jewelry. The stolen items were part of a larger collection owned by the officer's wife.
“The army authorities have been careful over the issue because the general’s wife is a full housewife, so how come she has jewelry worth millions of Naira? The jewelry stolen by the soldier, valued at ₦35 million, was just part of her collection,” one source explained.
Comfort had allegedly been monitoring the woman before committing the theft. After being caught, she was dismissed and detained.
This incident follows the dismissal of three other soldiers, LCPL Abdul Musa, CPL Innocent Okwoli, and CPL West Isaac, who were arrested for armed robbery and kidnapping. They were apprehended by police in April and subsequently handed over to military authorities. After being found guilty under the Armed Forces Act, they were dismissed from service and returned to police custody for prosecution.
