The Presidency has called for an investigation into the civil service framework to root out individuals labeled as "moles" with allegiance to the opposition party, the PDP. These moles are suspected of unauthorized disclosure of classified documents.
Recently, an internal memo surfaced, alleging President Tinubu's involvement in approving the disbursement of N500m out of N1bn to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume. The funds were designated for the inauguration of a 37-member Tripartite Committee tasked with discussing the New National Minimum Wage.
Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, stressed the urgency for the Federal Government to identify and remove individuals leaking classified information and suspected of opposition allegiance. This measure is crucial to safeguard sensitive data.
Onanuga remarked, "It's alarming that a memo from the SGF to the President, bearing the President's signature, has leaked. This suggests the presence of fifth columnists within the government.
"This isn't the first instance of a memo leak. There was a similar leak during the President's UNGA visit regarding a request for funds to cover hotel expenses, raising questions about the source.
"There are numerous moles possibly serving the opposition's agenda, disregarding civil service protocols for handling confidential information.
This underscores the need for the government to investigate how official memos are reaching the public domain. Confidential memos should not be circulating freely."
