FIRST LADY DONATES $100,000 TO NIDO MEDICAL CENTRE

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria and chairperson of the Renewed Hope Initiative, has fulfilled her commitment to supporting healthcare efforts for Nigerians in Sierra Leone by donating $100,000 to the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation, Sierra Leone Chapter (NIDO, SL). This donation, as outlined in a press statement by the organization, is part of her pledge to aid in the construction of a top-tier medical center catering to the needs of Nigerians residing in Sierra Leone.

Abiodun Oyebola, the president of NIDO in Sierra Leone, had appealed to Senator Oluremi for assistance due to the urgent requirement for improved medical facilities, given the poor condition of healthcare infrastructure in Sierra Leone.

Once operational, the NIDO medical center will significantly contribute to addressing the healthcare needs of over 40,000 Nigerians living in Sierra Leone, complementing the efforts of President Julius Maada Bio in enhancing the country's healthcare sector.

Senator Oluremi previously engaged with members of the Nigerian Diaspora in Sierra Leone during her visit to the country on November 19, 2023, as the Special Guest of Honour for the UN World Day commemoration, hosted by Her Excellency, Dr. Fatima Bio, the First Lady of Sierra Leone.

The donation represents a substantial step towards alleviating the challenges faced by Nigerians in Sierra Leone, particularly in the healthcare sector, which continues to grapple with the aftermath of the devastating 11-year civil war that ravaged the country's social infrastructure.

NIDO Sierra Leone has distinguished itself as a leader among NIDO chapters worldwide, notably organizing the largest gathering of Nigerians abroad during the inauguration of President Abiodun Oyebola and his executives on July 6, 2019, with over 4,500 attendees. Similarly, the NIDO medical center project marks a groundbreaking initiative within the diaspora community.

It is noteworthy that NIDO Sierra Leone is the first chapter to formally welcome and host Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, during her inaugural official trip outside the country, underscoring her commitment to supporting healthcare initiatives for Nigerians abroad.
