PORT HARCOURT REFINERY OPERATIONAL

The Port Harcourt Refinery in Rivers State has resumed operations, aligning with the Federal Government's commitment to producing refined products at the facility by December 2023.

With a combined capacity of 210,000 barrels per day, the refinery is officially starting operations today, as confirmed by Amaka Okafor, special assistant to Heineken Lokpobiri, the minister of state for petroleum (oil). The $1.5 billion rehabilitation project, initiated by the Buhari administration in 2019, aims to restore the refinery to its full capacity, marking a crucial milestone in enhancing Nigeria's domestic refining capacity and reducing dependence on imported petroleum products.

Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, had previously announced the refinery's anticipated commencement in December 2023.
