The former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, faced allegations of corruption during his tenure. Instead of investigating and prosecuting Bola Tinubu in 2021, he was accused of mishandling the case and engaging in corruption himself.
Upon Tinubu's presidency in 2023, Bawa was dismissed, and it was reported that over $60 million was recovered from multiple houses in Abuja that he allegedly owned.
Bawa's term was marred by corruption, including the auctioning of seized properties to himself and selling a N5 billion house in Maitama for ₦45 million to his girlfriend.
Additionally, Bawa and his brother faced scrutiny for alleged financial improprieties, leading to their recent release from DSS detention.
