On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, during a Senate plenary session, Senate President Godswill Akpabio convened an emergency closed session following an incident where Chief Whip Senator Ali Ndume, in frustration, walked out.
Ndume had raised a point of order, referencing Senate Rule Book order 54, to highlight perceived violations of Senate rules in the chamber and stated, "Mr. President, there are actions in this chamber that contravene the rules. Sir, no one is above learning."
Akpabio swiftly declared Ndume's remarks out of order, cutting him off mid-speech. In response, a visibly angered Ndume left the chamber and headed to his office.
However, he was called back for an executive session by a colleague shortly after settling in his office.
