The EFCC has launched a comprehensive investigation into former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, focusing on alleged $15 billion foreign debts. Emefiele is under scrutiny for the expenditure of N74.84 billion in currency production and introduction, including new naira notes.
These accusations supplement the ongoing probe by Special Investigator Jim Obazee, who's delving into CBN activities. Obazee, collaborating with the Nigeria Police's Federal Bureau of Investigation, submitted an interim report to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
An EFCC panel has begun interrogating Emefiele on multiple allegations, including the $15 billion foreign debts, the N74.84 billion spent on currency redesign, Anchor Borrowers Scheme fraud, suspicious CBN account audits, top CBN officials' bank and Fintech license acquisitions, and the questionable allocation of billion-Naira contracts.
