GOV OTTI MEETS DELEGATION OF NRC EASTERN DISTRICT

Governor Alex Chioma Otti recently held a meeting with a delegation from the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Eastern District, led by Mr. Moddibo Mohammed. During the meeting, they provided an update on the rail rehabilitation project initiated by the corporation.

The primary goal of this project is to revitalize the rail transport system in the state and the surrounding region, which has been inactive for an extended period.

NRC officials shared that the first phase of the project, involving the laying of 63 kilometers of new rail tracks from Port Harcourt to Aba, is on track for completion by the end of this year. They also projected that the second phase, connecting Aba to Umuahia, will be finished by the first quarter of 2024.

Furthermore, NRC officials requested the State Government's support in preventing vandalism of rail tracks stored in various parts of the state and sought assistance in providing security patrol vehicles to enhance security measures.

The State Government is highly committed to this project, recognizing its potential to boost economic growth in the state and the broader region by improving the transportation of goods and people. As a result, the State Government will collaborate closely with the NRC to ensure the efficient operation of the railway system. Security concerns will also be addressed through the deployment of security agencies to safeguard railway installations across the state.

The meeting was attended by the Commissioner for Transport, Comrade Sunny Onwuma, the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Engr. Monday Ikechukwu, and other senior government officials.
