During the event, former President Olusegun Obasanjo emphasized the significance of cultural respect and paying homage to deserving individuals as he addressed traditional rulers in Oyo State.
He issued the directive for the monarchs to rise from their seats while speaking at the inauguration of the 34.85km Oyo-Iseyin Road and the newly completed Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Iseyin Campus, home to the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources.
He said: "Wherever a governor or President is, the kings present must stand up to honour him."
"Age and position are two important things in Yoruba land, amongst others. When a governor is still in power, his position is higher than that of any king."
The former President added, "Even when I was the President, I prostrated for kings but when I was indoors, the kings would prostrate for me. So, let’s always honour our culture."
