The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has revealed that Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is not a certified member of the institute. According to NIPR regulations, it is illegal for anyone to engage in public relations without the necessary certification and licensing.
The newly elected governing council, led by Dr. Ike Neliaku, has stated that Mr. Ngelale lacks the essential knowledge and training in PR and is therefore not qualified for his current role in the Tinubu Presidency.
"We have reviewed our membership records and could not find Ajuri Ngelale listed. While one may excel in writing, broadcasting, or journalism, there are specific qualifications and knowledge requirements one must meet to practice Public Relations in Nigeria.
"The NIPR's legal framework outlines strict rules for appointing spokespersons and deems it a criminal offense for anyone to engage in Public Relations without certification from the Institute. The NIPR Act even specifies penalties for illegal practice, including imprisonment, fines, or both," disclosed a council member speaking anonymously.
