COOKING GAS PRICE CONCERNS

According to Olatunbosun Oladapo, the President of the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers, there has been a significant surge in cooking gas prices at terminals. Without swift action by the federal government, Nigerians could face the prospect of paying up to N18,000 for a 12.5kg cylinder of cooking gas by December 2023.

Olodapo highlighted that the price has risen from approximately N9-N10 million per 20 metric tons to N14 million per 20 metric tons. He also warned that if the government doesn't intervene, the gas price might potentially escalate to N18 million per metric ton by December, resulting in a 12.5kg gas cylinder costing as much as N18,000.

Expressing his concern for Nigerians, Olatunbosun remarked, "Now, the average person may struggle to afford gas. How many minimum wage earners can manage gas expenses? People are increasingly resorting to firewood and charcoal. What's surprising is their recent meeting with President Tinubu, where they pledged to collaborate for the betterment of life, but now they seem to be pursuing a different course of action."
