US-NIGERIA CELEBRATE DEMOCRACY

Peter Obi expressed the following:

Earlier tonight, I attended a reception hosted by David Greene, Chargé d'Affaires Ad Interim, Consul General Will Stevens, Embassy staff, U.S. citizens, and friends of the United States. We gathered to celebrate the 247th Independence Anniversary and birthday of the United States of America.

I extend my sincere admiration and respect to the government and citizens of the United States as they commemorate their history, heritage, and one of their most cherished national holidays. Despite the differences in age and size between our democracies, the United States and Nigeria share commonalities in their democratic aspirations, principles, and diversity. Moreover, the United States provides Nigeria with a valuable blueprint for good governance, emphasizing a Republican nation governed not by the whims of rulers, but by the precepts and creed of freedom and democracy, upheld through the rule of law, robust institutions, and the shared vision of nations governed by Constitutions reflecting the will of their citizens. As Nigerians, we deeply value the beauty of America, which serves as a beacon of freedom and democracy.

We greatly admire America's diversity and its unwavering determination to shape its own destiny.

On this momentous occasion, I extend my heartfelt wishes to the United States on its 247th Anniversary, and I hope for a joyful celebration.
