I WENT TO JAIL, I SHE'D BLOOD FOR NIGERIA; NOBODY CAN FRIGHTEN ME ABOUT MY FAVORITE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE FOR 2023 — OBASANJO
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said nothing threatens him in his choice of presidential candidate for the 2023 general election.
Obasanjo, was speaking at the National Secretariat of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu State as he and Yoruba Socio-Political organization Afenifere Pa Ayo Adebanjo signed an open book of condolences for the Minister of First Republic of Aviation, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi.
Describing the Nigeria problem as a national rather than an ethnic one, the former president reiterated his stated commitment to enthroning a new Nigeria, saying the country not only needs a president at this critical time, but also a a leader of character.
He said, "I have shed my blood for this country. I have gone to prison for this country. So, a what are you going to frighten or threaten me with? The only thing that my senior brother (Adebanjo) hasn't done is that he hasn't shed his blood but he has gone to prison but we will leave that aside."
"The problem we have in our hands in Nigeria is not ethnic. It is national. And for me, the most important thing in a leader is character. The problem we have had is that we have not had a leader with the right type of character that they should be trusted with the leadership role."
