Abia State Police Squad arrested a gang of 10 men armed robbery in connection with the theft of a bank bullion truck along the Enugu-Portharcourt highway near the Ntigha junction in Isiala Ngwa North LGA.
Recall that on July 26, 2022, a van loaded with cash and belonging to New Generation Bank was ambushed by a large number of gun thieves.
Abia State Commissioner of Police, Ms Janet Agbade, led the suspects out and said the feared gunmen killed the bank officer and stole all the money from the bullion van, adding that one of the gunmen had been neutralized in the process.
According to Police Chief Prosper Israel, there were a number of fired DSS personnel among the gang of gun thieves, including Adesoji Adeniyi, Nnamdi Nwaosu alias Prophet, Nwachukwu Albert, Chief Armorer, Felix Ajalaja, Moshood Opeyemi, Matthew Christmas, Azubuike Amaefula, and Monday Samuel.
She called on Abians to always provide useful information to the police to improve proactive measures to protect life and property.
The amount of 10,184,000.00 was recovered from the gang.
One of the suspects, Prosper Isreal Chijioke, a resident of Ugwunagbo LGA in the state of Abia, confessed to the crime and said he was fired from the DSS and involved in the crime after his younger brother gave him some of the stolen money but regretted his part in the crime.
However, the police commissioner urged parents to always keep an eye on the source of livelihood of their children / wards.
