The governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Tambuwal, has imposed 24 hours curfew in the state following the brutal killing of Deborah Samuel. She was killed on Thursday by some Muslims because of religious blasphemy.
Her killing has provoked immediate reaction from all and sundry. Sultan of the state condemned the killing too. Nigerians in reaction have cried out and asked the government to fish out the culprits.
Subsequently, the police command in Sokoto state announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with the killing.
But on Saturday morning, some Muslim youths in Sokoto took to the streets to protest against the arrest of the suspects.
Churches and vehicles were burnt. Shops and other properties of the Igbos in the area were destroyed and looted, as they Muslim fanatics took to the street asking for the release of the two suspects in police custody as well as another known criminal held in police custody also.
Consequently, the governor of the state after consulting some chiefs and emirs in the state announced 24 hours curfew with immediate effect.
