The Nigeria Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) has arrested four (4) suspects in connection with the abduction and gruesome murder of Mrs Nneka Nwanyi-Sunday Emeh Kalu, who was abducted and found dead in a cassava farm on August 29, 2021 in Ngugworo Community, Nguzu Edda, Afikpo South, Ebonyi State. Irem Ifeanyi Mbah, Igwe Anya Chima, Okorie Okam, and Emeh Kalu - the deceased's husband and the main suspect – have all been arrested. The accused range in age from 25 to 40 years old and are all from Nguzu Edda village in Ebonyi State's Afikpo South Local Council Area.
The victim's death was investigated after a complaint was received from the residents of Ngugworo community, Ebonyi State, a border town to Abia State, where the victim lived, when the late Mrs Kalu's decomposing body was discovered.
According to the police investigation, Emeh Kalu, the deceased's husband, hired five (5) other criminal elements to stage the abduction of his wife by luring her to meet him at a junction to pick up some items for the house in order to fraudulently and hastily 'inherit' his wife's numerous assets, including landed property, houses, money in the bank, and a thriving business, among other things. The perpetrators strangled her to death after collecting vital information on the whereabouts of title documents and other relevant paperwork of her possessions, according to the investigation. Efforts to apprehend more suspects and those charged in the case are being stepped up in order to bring the investigations to a close.
