"NO SINGLE CASE OF CORONAVIRUS IN ABIA" — GOV IKPEAZU

The Governor of Abia State, Victor Okezie Ikpeazu was on Monday, April 20, 2020 stated that no single confirmed case of Coronavirus in Abia State. Also several samples have been sent to the NEDC for testing and all were negative.

He made Abians to understand that Government is not gaining anything from keeping her people locked down at home, rather COVID-19 is a dangerous disease which has the capacity to destroy a lot of lives. Therefore, he urged everybody to respect the directive of staying at home in order to be alive to tell the Coronavirus story.

He has this to say:

"Our people must understand that the lockdown is a necessity. It's painful but necessary. Government is not gaining anything from keeping our people locked down at home. This disease is dangerous and has the capacity to destroy a lot of lives. I appeal to our people to respect the Stay At Home directives and hopefully, we all will be alive to tell the Coronavirus story.

Here in Abia, we deal with facts and figures. As at today, there is no single confirmed case of Coronavirus in Abia State. We have sent several samples to the NCDC for testing and all of them came back negative. But we are not resting on our oars here. We have put adequate measures in place to handle any case that may come up.

I have said it severally and let me repeat it here again. No security officer who deliberately kills any Abian will go free. It is unacceptable to use guns given to them to secure the people to kill them. Security operatives must exercise the highest level of discretion when dealing with members of the public.

At the same time, I must caution our people to avoid, as much as possible, needless confrontations with armed security men. Don't attempt to disarm them to show bravery."
