RELIEF MARKET IN UMUAHIA... DONE AND DUSTED — GOV. IKPEAZU

The Abia State Governor Victor Okezie Ikpeazu has finally redeemed the promise made to the traders at Isi Gate Umuahia, the capital city of Abia State, precisely those selling perishable food items to relocate them to a permanent place at Amuzukwu Umuahia.

The aim of relocating them was to control the traffic challenge at Isi Gate and to keep that environment clean.

He has this to say:

"A few weeks ago, I made a commitment that traders at Isi Gate, Umuahia, especially those that sell perishable food items will be relocated to a Relief Market at Amuzukwu Umuahia.

The idea was to manage the traffic at Isi Gate caused majorly by the presence of petty traders, especially those who sell perishable food items. Apart from the traffic challenge, the presence of these traders there contribute to keeping that environment dirty.

It was in the bid to solve this perennial problem that my administration came up with the idea of the Relief Market. As bad as the presence of these petty traders are at Isi Gate, I promised I  would not push them out until I get an alternative place for them within the Umuahia township axis, since most of them can not afford to move to the main Market at Ubani, Ibeku.

That Relief Market is ready now.

It has toilet facilities for the traders, unlike what they are used to at Isi Gate. The new Relief Market also has full electricity supply to ensure that these traders can do business even at night.
There is also adequate security there to protect buyers and sellers at the market, especially at night.

With this, and for the very first time, we will have in Umuahia, a Market dedicated wholly to the sale of perishable food items.

One of the advantages of this Relief Market is that it will help waste management since it’s easy to now collect refuse, especially from perishable food items from one single location.

The traders will move very soon and Isi Gate, with its dreaded human traffic congestion will be free again."
